A little catching up...

Over the weekend, we had a visitor.  A woman who lived in our home 40 years ago.  I always love hearing their memories of this house.  Everyone I talk to seems to love living here.  I feel the same way.  It's large but still feels homey and cozy.  When she lived here, there were five bedrooms and only one bathroom upstairs.  I'm grateful it's now four bedrooms and 2 bathrooms upstairs.  We gave her our blog website so she could see all of the changes we've made.  That's when I realized it's been almost one year since I did a blog update.  While we didn't get as much done as we'd liked last year, we did make some updates.

The upstairs hall bath renovation is finally complete.
Vanity countertop installed.
Bathtub reglazed.

Shower curtain hardware installed
Vanity sink and faucet installed
The bathroom was usable mid July 2015.  February 2016 we finally painted the trim.

I always think our home looks best in the fall.  The colors just fit the season perfectly.

In November 2015 we thought the basement drain kept pushing water up and getting our basement wet.  We finally realized that wasn't the case; we had a leak.  It took months to find the cause.  After numerous contractors.  After Greg dug a hole through the garage floor.  After we tore up the floor at our backdoor (Greg and I can't fit through the crawlspace hole).  Eventually found the issue in the line in our backyard.  Since we can't fit in the crawlspace hole, we decided to build a trap door in the floor, which then led us to tearing up the bathroom floor next to the hallway so the flooring would all be the same.  Caused more work then but much better in the long run.

Fixing the floor began in March 2016.

What's next?  Just have to wait and see.

Hall Bath Renovation: Day ? +1&2

Contractors have been here Monday and Tuesday and made some great progress.  So exciting to see it looking like a bathroom.

New toilet in new location.  Quinn loves the lid as it slowly lowers to not pinch fingers.  Maybe it will get him interested in using a toilet.  A gal can dream.

 Exhaust fan installed

 Installed shower head and faucet

 Installed cabinetry

 Vanity Base

Close up of backsplash tile

Mirror for vanity

Mirror lights up with a wave of your hand

Trim around the door.  Needs some paint.

Getting closer to completion.

Hall Bath Renovation: Day ?

Originally I had done well keeping track of the hall bath renovation's daily progress.  Then things started to change.

It started with being unhappy with the tile installation on the floor and requiring part of it to be pulled up and redone.

We met with the cabinet maker.  We didn't like any of his countertop options so we had to search elsewhere for a countertop.  We lost a little time with this delay.

Then the biggest surprise came along:  Vann Tyree was born May 20, 2015.  We rushed to the hospital to meet him and brought him home two days later.

On May 22, our date to bring Vann home, the contractors were sanding the drywall.  Thankful for us, my Aunt Marilyn was home with Quinn.  She took Quinn to daycare and she cleaned up the drywall dust in the house. Thanks Marilyn!

Since Vann has joined us, we've had some progress but not as much as we had hoped.  We hoped it would be done by now.  Life doesn't go as planned, does it?

Herringbone tile for the sink backsplash, without grout.

Greg stripped the door.  Still needs stained.  We are using the same solid door.  Woodtrim re-installed around door.  Needs sanded and painted.

Greg and I painted the walls light grey.

We didn't like how the shower tiles met the ceiling so Greg installed tiles on the shower ceiling to finish it off.

This week they are grouting the herringbone backsplash, installing the cabinets and hopefully connecting the plumbing.

Can you find the tile that is turned the wrong direction?  Character :)

Hall Bath Renovation: Day 7

We liked the hexagon tile originally in the bathroom so we kept that look on the floor.

Hall Bath Renovation: Day 6

The shower is surrounded with subway tile!

Hall Bath Renovation: Day 5

LOTS of drywall installed today.

Enclosed the plumbing that runs through the dining room.

We can no longer look up at the kitchen ceiling and see the bathroom above!

Looking into the bathroom from the hallway.

Drywall where the vanity, medicine cabinet and toilet use to be.

Drywall where the new vanity will be.

Drywall on the ceiling...do I call that dryceiling?  Just kidding.
