It's in the Details

Been doing some odds and ends this past week to get the living room, foyer and dining room complete so we can move the furniture back in.  Greg installed some finishing trim.  I painted after he attached the trim.  Washed the windows in those rooms.  Installed the curtain hardware and hung up the curtains.  Cleaned the ceiling fans and wiped down the fireplace.  Close to move-in ready.

Added bonus:  Greg double hung the hall closet so we can have room for more stuff.  Now, I need to paint it.

After a 2nd coat of polyurethane, the floors are done!  And We think they turned out great.  Take a look for yourself.

See all of the floor remodel photos at www.picasaweb.google.com/dewingjones

Next, we have to put the rooms back together.  But that will have to wait for another day.  We are taking the day off.

Happy 4th of July!

Burning the Midnight Oil

For those of you who are wondering, did we finish the final coat of stain Friday night?  Why, yes we did.  With 30 minutes to spare before the clock clicked to midnight.  Are we a little sore today, yes.  But the fact that we fit 2 days worth of work into one is priceless.

A few of the boards are still a bit sticky/damp, likely because of our lovely humid Indiana weather, and the possibility that we put a little too much stain on those boards.  They should soon dry so we can begin to apply the top coats.  Until then, time for laundry, grocery shopping and cleaning the basement.  There is always something to do, isn't there?

Day 1 - Sanding Floors on First Floor and....

Friday started at 6:30 am for Greg as he got up to go rent the sander.  Lucky me got to sleep in a little longer.  Once Greg returned with the sander around 8 am, we got started.  He ran the big sander while I used our hand-held sanders and hand scraper to get in the corners and difficult areas.  By late afternoon we were cleaning up the floors and thinking we were a little ahead of schedule.

So.....we decided to make this a long day/night and stain the floors.  Goal is to get 2 coats on tonight, sleep while it dries.  Then we can put the top coat on Saturday and still have Sunday and Monday of our 4-day weekend. Sounds like a good idea...hope we are still thinking that later tonight.
